We wanted to learn Japanese the way we actually read it — through real sentences, in context, without drilling vocabulary in isolation. We couldn't find that, so we built it.

Bento Japanese is a reading-first language learning platform. It puts exposure to real Japanese at the center: graded readers, natural sentences, contextual learning. Active learners, real retention data, regular content releases. It's taught us more about engagement design than any textbook, and we built it ourselves from concept to production.

Three focused apps for learning the Japanese scripts: Hiragana Sensei 1, Hiragana Sensei 2, and Katakana Sensei. Simple, effective, no fluff. They predated everything else and introduced a lot of learners to Skydea. The Sensei characters later found a home inside JLRPG.

Creative Tokyo is a community and event series for designers and creatives in Tokyo. We've hosted events that connect local and international talent, bridging the gap between Tokyo's design scene and the global creative conversation. It's where a lot of our thinking about design culture gets tested in the real world — and it's introduced us to people and projects we wouldn't have found any other way.

Kingdom is a business management game for iPhone. You start a tech company in Mom's Garage and run it month by month: who to hire, what to build, what to charge and where to spend. Each month brings a decision card with a real business lesson behind it, and every choice shows up in the numbers, from the P&L to your cash runway.

An RPG game for learning Japanese. You navigate real-world scenarios in Japan, pick up vocabulary and grammar through quests and characters, and slowly shift from English to Japanese as your skills improve. Built with art by Brunchy Cafe, it earned a sizeable userbase and taught us how people actually engage (and disengage) with language learning. Those lessons shaped everything we built next.
