The Challenge
Online gambling is illegal in Japan, but many are still affected and addicted. The team at Gamban, a leading solution for gambling recovery, recognized this and was looking to expand their reach here.
However, the concept of gambling-blocking software was relatively new in Japan. The challenge was to introduce this unfamiliar idea in a way that felt approachable and culturally relevant. Establishing credibility, empathy, and clarity were key to earning the trust of Japanese users.
Building a Localized Experience
To make Gamban approachable to Japanese users, we leaned into the softer tones of Gamban's existing brand identity. Our focus was to help Gamban blend into Japan's digital landscape and focusing on user needs such as reducing the stigma and shame, being supportive, and focusing on features that would help save face, a cultural sticking point.
The Outcome
Through clear explanations and positive visuals, the Japanese site positions Gamban as a reliable companion on the road to recovery.
The launch of Gamban marked a major step in Gamban’s global mission to make recovery accessible to everyone. By blending Gamban’s international credibility with a localized, empathetic approach, the brand now provides a meaningful resource for users in Japan who want to reclaim their freedom from gambling.
